Welcome to the Chemical Oceanography – Observations & Outreach Laboratory at Georgia Tech (CO₃@GT)! We use geochemical techniques to explore elemental cycling in dynamic coastal and marine ecosystems (like coral reefs) and relate our observations to metrics of ecosystem health, climate change impacts, and more on a variety of spatial and temporal timescales. We further believe in geoscience research as a service that can be used as a tool to usher in a new era of equitable and inclusive relationships between environment and society. We therefore pursue and advocate for community participatory ecosystem research efforts – embracing local community influence on driving where, when, why, and how environmental science is conducted. This is a guiding principle that we apply to all of our research, education, and outreach efforts – be it coral reefs in the Caribbean, water quality in Atlanta, and beyond.
