The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), in partnership with the Constellations Center for Equity in Computing at Georgia Tech, is hosting the 2nd Annual Georgia Mathematics Equity Summit.

In light of recent events that have further exposed injustices and exacerbated inequities, we continue to join the calls for action to push forward together for change. We aim toward more equitable opportunities within Georgia’s mathematics classrooms. The goals of the summit are to support educators and build a compassionate and unified community to help students excel in mathematics education through the lens of equity and access.

“Addressing equity and access includes both ensuring that all students attain mathematics proficiency and increasing the numbers of students from all racial, ethnic, linguistic, gender and socioeconomic groups who attain the highest levels of mathematics achievement” (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 2014).

Summit participants will engage with K-12 and higher education leaders through panel discussions, concurrent sessions, and facilitated working groups. They will have the unique opportunity to reflect on the importance of mathematics equity and access. The participants will also strategize around the role of leadership in closing long-standing and pervasive achievement gaps. This year’s summit will include the introduction of computer science education as a vehicle for providing equitable learning experiences for all students.
