Timesha BrooksTimesha Brooks

Mathematics Implementation Specialist | Oconee RESA

Timesha Brooks is a dedicated mathematics educator with over 15 years of experience. She currently serves as a Mathematics Implementation Specialist and Mathematics Mentor serving the Oconee RESA area. She has experience as a mathematics teacher and teacher leader, including her roles as an Instructional Site Facilitator at Clayton County Public Schools and educator in Atlanta Public Schools. She holds an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Administration and a Master’s degree in statistics from Georgia State University, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Spelman College. She has experience supporting teachers’ professional growth in effective mathematics instruction, classroom management, teacher training, curriculum development, and data analysis. Her educational background is in applied mathematics and statistics. Her expertise is with students who are considered “at risk” and consistently helping them increase student achievement in the area of mathematics. She has worked with students who have been placed in alternative programs and used her knowledge and expertise to assist teachers with the training and knowledge to support their students’ growth, both academically and socially.

 

Naomi JessupDr. Naomi Jessup

Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the College of Education & Human Development’s Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education | Georgia State University

Dr. Naomi Jessup is an assistant professor of mathematics education in the College of Education & Human Development’s Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She has more than 15 years of experience in the field of mathematics education at the K-12 and college/university levels serving as an elementary school teacher, kindergarten through eighth-grade mathematics instructional coach (school and district level) and methods course instructor. Her current mathematics education research focuses on understanding teacher learning and development–specifically teacher noticing, framing and children’s mathematical thinking.

Dr. Jessup earned a Ph.D. in Educational Studies of Mathematics Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a Master of School Administration degree from Appalachian State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

 

allysonAllyson Morgan

STEM / STEAM Program Specialist | Georgia Department of Education

Allyson Morgan is a STEM / STEAM Program Specialist with the Georgia Department of Education. Previously, Allyson worked as a classroom teacher in the Athens-Clarke County and Savannah-Chatham County Public School Systems. In Savannah, Allyson taught at The STEM Academy at Bartlett, a certified STEAM middle school. Allyson has also worked as a Literacy School Improvement Coach in Savannah-Chatham. Allyson graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. Ed. in English Education and obtained an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from Armstrong State University and Ed.S from Georgia Southern University in Educational Leadership. Allyson lives in Savannah, Georgia with her husband, Parker, and daughter, Eliza.

 

Michael WiernickiMichael Wiernicki

Elementary Mathematics Program Specialist | Georgia Department of Education

Mike Wiernicki has worked in K-12 education for over 25 years as a classroom teacher, mathematics coach, and adjunct professor at Mercer University. Mike is currently the Elementary Mathematics Program Specialist at the Georgia Department of Education. He earned his Masters Degree in Middle Grades Mathematics from the University of West Georgia and will graduate from UGA in December with a Specialist Degree in K-8 Mathematics.  Mr. Wiernicki has conducted numerous workshops and has presented at the state, regional, and national levels.  His passion for teaching and learning mathematics is evident in his energetic presentations.

 

Seyoung Holte

Director of K-5 Mathematics | Northeast Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency 

Seyoung Holte is a Mathematics Mentor with Northeast Georgia RESA where she directs the K-5 mathematics program for the region.  She also serves as the Northeast Region Representative for the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Her areas of expertise include making effective mathematics teaching practices visible for teachers and leaders to support all learners.  She has led professional learning around the 8 Standards for Mathematical Practice, numeracy progression, Cognitively Guided Instruction, Number Talks and Growth Mindset in Teaching and Learning.

 

meghanMeghan McFerrin

STEM/STEAM Specialist | Georgia Department of Education

Meghan McFerrin serves as a STEM/STEAM Program Specialist at the Georgia Department of Education. Prior to entering this role, Meghan served as the Coordinator of School and Teacher Services at the High Museum of Art. There, she developed programming and educational resources for teachers and students that connect works of art in the Museum with classroom teaching and learning objectives. She created the elementary school STEAM tour and art-making workshops, led arts integration professional learning workshops, and served as the project lead for Museum Access for Kids, a program designed to increase accessibility and differentiated instruction for students with disabilities. Meghan received a BFA and MAEd in Art Education from the University of Georgia along with teaching certification.

 

Rontra BrownRontra Brown

STEM/STEAM Program Specialist | Georgia Department of Education

Rontra Brown is a STEM/STEAM Program Specialist for the Georgia Department of Education.  She has over 16 years of experience in education and worked as a secondary science teacher in the Dougherty County School System.  Rontra has also served as a Science Department Chairperson, High School Instructional Coach, and building level STEM coordinator.  She is an alumna of Albany State University where she earned a B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Criminal Justice/Forensic Science and obtained an Ed.S. from Columbus State University in Educational Leadership.  Rontra lives in Albany, Georgia.

 

Karla CwetnaDr. Karla Cwetna

Secondary Mathematics Program Specialist | Georgia Department of Education

Karla is from Stockbridge, GA, just south of Atlanta. She earned a PhD in Teaching and Learning Secondary Mathematics from Georgia State University where her dissertation research focused on the roles of parents in online high school mathematics courses. Prior to that, she received a Masters in Special Education from Grand Canyon University and a BS in Business Administration from Mercer University. Karla has been an advocate of student-centered teaching and learning since beginning her career in the classroom in 2006. She has worked with teachers across the state to improve math learning experiences for all students.

 

SharquintaSharquinta Tuggle

Professional Learning Program Specialist | Georgia Department of Education

Sharquinta Tuggle is a School Effectiveness/Professional Learning Program Specialist with the Georgia Department of Education. Spurred by her passion in school reform, instructional leadership, history of African-American education and sociology in education, Sharquita supports school leaders and teachers with improving operational and instructional processes. With a background in mathematics, Sharquinta has served in the capacity of K-12 Mathematics Coordinator of a Metro Atlanta school district and Secondary Mathematics Specialist with the Georgia Department of Education.
