Sababu Chaka Barashango
Constellations Fellow | Constellations Center for Equity in Computing at Georgia Tech
Sababu Barashango brings a wealth of knowledge to his assigned schools. Barashango earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and French from Morehouse College and a master of arts in mathematics education from Emory University. He brings nearly 23 years of experience teaching in various Georgia and Delaware schools.
As a DeKalb educator, Barashango was named Teacher of the Year twice. He also helped write the curriculum for the computer science principles course in the district and served as the chairperson of the school improvement and program advisory committees. He has previously taught courses such as Computer Science Principles, Programming, Games, Apps and Society, AP Computer Science A, Accelerated Math II and III, and AP Calculus AB.
Barashango will primarily be supporting teachers at Grady High School and Douglas High School.
Joanne Britt
Mathematics Mentor | West Georgia RESA
Joanne Britt has been in education for 17 years and was an engineer by trade with a bachelor’s degree from Southern Tech. Within the 17 years, Joanne has served as a high mathematics teacher, Secondary Mathematics Academic Coach and educational specialist within a Georgia school district. After working with teachers and administrators, providing professional development, writing math curriculum and assessments, and providing support for teachings in Troup County Schools, Joanne accepted the role of Math Consultant/Mentor at West Georgia RESA in 2019.
Bryan Cox
Computer Science Program Specialist | Georgia Department of Education
Bryan Cox is the Computer Science Program Specialist at the Georgia DOE. Prior to working for the GaDOE, Bryan spent 8 years as a High School STEM teacher, teaching math, computer science, and engineering courses. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from Georgia State University with a research focus on educational games for computational thinking. He also received a M.A.T. in mathematics from GSU and a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Florida A & M University. He has spent time working as a network designer and computer technician as well as working with after-school and summer youth programs.
Dr. Karla Cwetna
Secondary Mathematics Program Specialist | Georgia Department of Education
Karla is from Stockbridge, GA, just south of Atlanta. She earned a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning Secondary Mathematics from Georgia State University where her dissertation research focused on the roles of parents in online high school mathematics courses. Prior to that, she received a Masters in Special Education from Grand Canyon University and a BS in Business Administration from Mercer University. Karla has been an advocate of student-centered teaching and learning since beginning her career in the classroom in 2006. She has worked with teachers across the state to improve math learning experiences for all students.
Kim Garvin
School Improvement Specialist | First District RESA
Kim Garvin serves as a School Improvement Specialist with First District RESA. She has twenty years of teaching experience in elementary grades ranging from Kindergarten to fifth grade. Prior to her work with FDRESA, she taught in Vidalia City, Columbia County and Jenkins County schools.
Kim earned her B.S. in Early Childhood Education and received her M.Ed in Reading, both from Georgia Southern University. She received her Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College. Kim is also certified as a Teacher Support Specialist.
Denise Huddleston
Mathematics Coordinator Grades K-5 | Metro RESA Staff
Denise Huddlestun is the K -5 Mathematics Specialist at Metro Regional Education Service Agency. She began her career as an elementary and middle school mathematics teacher. Her interest in supporting pre-service and in-service teachers grew while working at Georgia Southern University where she supervised student teachers, taught elementary math methods courses, and worked with teachers in the induction program. Denise is immediate Past-President of the Georgia Council of Teachers. While serving as President, the conferences focused on access and equity to education.
Kaycie Maddox
Director of Mathematics 9-12 | Northeast Georgia RESA
Kaycie Maddox has been described as having phenomenal knowledge in curriculum and teacher development. As the Director of Mathematics for 9-12, Kaycie plans and implements workshops which have a unique blend of practice and understanding of the Georgia Standards of Excellence and the Standards of Mathematical Practices. Kaycie is a leader within the mathematics community and has a strong working knowledge of K-12 statistics, granting numerous opportunities to lead professional learning on the national level.
Jenise Sexton
Mathematics Content Integration Specialist | Georgia Department of Education
Jenise Sexton serves as the Mathematics and Special Education Content Integration Specialist at the Georgia Department of Education. She is passionate about ensuring that each and every learner’s needs are met and believes that when students’ needs are met, they will succeed. She also believes in taking a social-emotional approach to teaching so that each student feels valued. Her experience includes serving as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher, mathematics coach and district mathematics specialist in Henry and Gwinnett counties. Throughout her educational career, she has remained committed to meeting the needs of every student.
