Initial Sketches
Our design process began with a brainstorming session where we generated 10 distinct solutions to our problem statement that aligned with our design requirements. These ideas ranged from an exercise scheduler to a team exercise challenge app, and each was sketched out into a basic storyboard so people could get a rough notion of the design concept.
Sketch Evaluation
Taking the sketches we generated, we found several users to rate them. In the evaluation, we let users rank the ideas from favorite to least favorite, as well as comment on what they liked or disliked for each concept.
Storyboarding
Based on our user feedback session and our own assessment of each idea’s novelty and feasibility, we decided on the “nurture a virtual character” and “spontaneous fitness buddy” ideas as the most viable options.
Nurture a Virtual Character
This design will motivate users to exercise with a partner by recruiting them to take care of a virtual character. Think about it like an exercise Tamagotchi. Completing workouts alone or with your friend will grow your virtual pal.
Spontaneous Fitness Buddy
This design lets users sync up when they have time. They just set themselves as active when they start working out, notifying their friends, who can join in on a call, and listen along to whatever music or podcast their friend is listening to.
