January 23, 2023: Class Work

Names of group members: Ziyan Ishani, Jason Xu, Jonathan Huang, Nikil Kandala, Simon Shek

Team name: 5 guys

Questions:

  1. List 5 key terms associated with the reading: Bias processing, storytelling, persuasion, message processing, counter argument
  2. How does the article define fact, narrative, and their relationship: The reading defined a narrative as a form of media that contains characters and events/plot. Fact is something that can be proven empirically. The relationship between the two is when you are able to express some information through a manner that resembles a narrative.
  3. How does the reading shape the way you think about your own reading/writing: As a whole, the article has made me more aware of what I want to include in my own project. As of now, I want to do something related to healthcare and am now thinking more consciously about how I can express these big concepts in a manner that blends fact and narrative. More specifically, I want to be able to create a cohesive narrative by blending the individual facts I learn during my research.
  4. Who is the audience for this reading: The audience for this reading is anyone looking to improve their research by including different techniques.
  5. Is it a good article: In general, I thought that this was a good article. After reading the work, I feel like I have gained a clearer understanding of what successful research looks like and what techniques I want to include in my own work. One thing I didn’t like however was that the reading felt dense at points and was difficult to get through.
