HOW THIS CONTEST WORKED

This semester’s Flash Fiction Contest was a competition that challenged students to create short stories (1000 words or less) that imagined life as a student at Georgia Tech in 2050.  Eighteen students submitted stories which were judged by three Georgia Tech professors.  The judges did not know the students’ identities.  In determining prizes, the judges looked for a unique voice, fresh language, and the skilled use of metaphor and irony.  They looked for compelling narratives or moving accounts of the future that threaded the line between the personal and the universal.

Sound like fun?  Let us know if you’d like us to make this a tradition!

NOTE TO THE CONTESTANTS

We want to thank all the contestants who took the time to write and share their wonderful stories.  We know it takes a lot of work to write an original story and courage to submit it!  We’d love to award every contestant a prize, just to honor your writing efforts, but then it wouldn’t be a competition.  We believe all the contestants are winners because of the effort, creativity, and courage you showed by writing and submitting an original work of fiction.  Our congratulations to all writers who entered the competition.
