ALZ Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease

November 5, 2018 by Kathleen Jordan

Dr. Cassie Mitchell’s research group, The Laboratory for Pathology Dynamics (Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech-Emory) had a wonderful time at the ALZ Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease on October 13, 2018, at Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, GA.  The three mile ALZ Walk was one many held nationwide to fundraise for research supported by the Alzheimer’s Association.  This was one of the lab’s chosen community service projects for this semester–something Dr. Mitchell initiated to help build good research and community ties and “lab culture” by connecting the students with the patients and families for whom they are trying to help with their research projects in the lab.  Attached is a picture from the professional photographer that has the lab pictured with their sign at the ALZWalk (taken by TrueSpeedPhoto, but no copyright on it).   The Laboratory for Pathology Dynamics was thrilled to be able to raise money (about $1400) and do the walk together as a research lab to help give back and show their support for Alzheimer’s patients both inside and outside the research lab setting. The Laboratory for Pathology Dynamics was happy to give time and support back to the Alzheimer’s Research who recently funded them via the 2018 Alzheimer’s Association Research Grant to Promote Diversity.  Dr. Mitchell and her students are excited for the results to come out as they continue to quilt thousands or articles worth of disparate Alzheimer’s data into predictions that can expedite Alzheimer’s clinical success.
