Stephen Allegri

M.S. Biomedical Engineering
sallegri3@gatech.edu    LinkedIn

My main research interests include data science and data visualization. Being able to use these two concepts in the spheres of biomedical engineering and computational biology leads to extremely satisfying work.

Irfan Al-Hussaini

Ph.D. Electrical and Computer Engineering
alhussaini.irfan@gatech.edu    LinkedIn

My research involves developing methods to determine the risk factors of different types of infection in patients using Electronic Health Records. In addition to the quantification of risk factors, I am working on recommendation systems that will provide treatment recommendations for those patients. I am also working on the prediction of missing links in knowledge graphs and visualizations of induced subgraphs of knowledge graphs derived from text mining.

Sarah Bi

M.S. Biomedical Engineering
sbi30@gatech.edu    LinkedIn

I’m currently working on researching combination treatments for ALS using stability theory and mathematical optimization. I’m interested in using machine learning for biomedical applications, such as disease diagnosis and medical devices.

David Kartchner

Ph.D. Computational Science and Engineering
dkartchner3@gatech.edu

David is a CSE PhD student passionate about using machine learning to improve human health and medical care. His current work involves mining multi-scalar biomedical relations from research publications to construct large-scale knowledge graphs of biomedical information. This information is then analyzed using graph neural networks to synthesize understanding about disease etiology and to identify new research targets for clinical research and drug repurposing.

Anna Kirkpatrick

Ph.D. Algorithms, Combinatorics, and Optimization
akirkpatrick3@gatech.edu    Google Scholar

My primary research interests are the application of discrete mathematics and computer science to problems in biology. I have studied convergence of Markov chains inspired by RNA secondary structures, limiting probability distributions for a model of RNA structure, Markov models for progression of Alzheimer’s Disease, and algorithms for navigating knowledge graphs. My other research interests include computational complexity questions on discrete structures and the combinatorics of substructure occurrence.

Adam Krueger

Ph.D. Physics
adamk98@gatech.edu

My research interests lie in applying tools from physics and physics principles to medical problems. How can what we know about stability translate to somebody’s life? How do systems in equilibrium react to different perturbations? How do systems away from equilibrium react to perturbations?

Raghav Tandon

Ph.D. Electrical and Computer Engineering
rtandon32@gatech.edu    LinkedIn    Google Scholar

I am interested in understanding Alzheimer’s Disease from different data modalities and develop new machine learning methods with these data to better manage the condition.

Sri Vivek Vanga

M.S. Computer Science
svanga3@gatech.edu

I have worked on setting up a website where the lab’s curated content will be hosted and available for search. I am currently contributing to building the next-gen Semnet by working on developing embedding for nodes in a heterogeneous graph. I am also interested in Reinforcement learning and its applications in personalized medical treatment.

Armon Varmeziar

M.S. Biomedical Engineering
avarmeziar@gatech.edu    LinkedIn

My interests lie where the realms of healthcare and computer science intersect: Precision Medicine. This approach takes into account the personal characteristics of a specific patient (e.g. genes, environment, lifestyle) and comes up with a personalized treatment. With this kind of approach, doctors and researchers can predict more accurately which treatment and prevention strategies for a particular disease will work in which groups of people. In the lab, I am currently focused on a precision-based approach for pediatric acute leukemia.
