Research and Teaching

Research focus group:  Review of the literature and policies on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity 

·       Partner with the community focus group to analyze the requests and responses to identify community needs; 

·       Search, read, analyze and summarize the latest findings on issues of diversity, inclusion and equity in language, policy, academic education and engineering 

·       Invite external speakers to CEE seminar series to talk about diversity, inclusion and equity 

·       Write guidelines, handbooks with practical recommendations for CEE, based on the above 

·       Develop holistic diversity, inclusion and equity assessment metrics that go beyond demographics 

Teaching focus group: Create inclusive education tools 

·       Write guidelines to phrase inclusion statements in syllabi and address students by their preferred names and pronouns 

·       Create a set of engineering problems that encompass a diversity, inclusion and/or equity dimension for classes that are traditionally very quantitative, such as mechanics and mathematics 

·       Write a handbook on best student advising
