Biography

Michelangelo Greppi is a MSc Student in Aeronautical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, Department of Aerospace Science and Technology.
Currently, he holds a visiting scholar position at Georgia Tech’s CEREAL lab, performing research for his MSc Thesis. His research focuses on high-fidelity CFD methods for rotorcraft shipboard operations. In recognition of his research project, he has been granted a scholarship from Politecnico di Milano.
Prior to this, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and worked as Head of the Fluid Dynamics Department in Physis PEB, a student team of Politecnico di Milano, helping the design and testing of an hybrid (Electric-Solar-Hydrogen) race boat.
In his free time, Michelangelo enjoys running and mountain biking, he likes spending time outdoors with friends and taking part in social activities. Additionally, he is a sport enthusiast in general, especially of Formula One.

Research

The research focuses on high-fidelity CFD approaches for rotorcraft operating in ship airwakes. One of the main drivers of this research is to streamline the ship-landing certification process integrating wind tunnel tests and numerical models, reducing the reliance on on-site flight tests. Additionally, the research delves into the scaling effects, exploring how variations in the model’s scale—representing a variation in the Reynolds number—affects rotor loads and consequently, pilot workload.
