Cardiovascular Fluid Mechanics Laboratory

Cardiac and Valvular Mechanics

Structural defects within the heart are a major component of cardiovascular disease, our nation’s leading cause of death. We aim to better understand the diseases afflicting the heart’s valves and chambers. Our toolkit includes a range of custom-designed flow simulators, measurement devices, and quantification techniques, in combination with advanced imaging, flow visualization, and computational modeling platforms. With these tools, we’ve made significant contributions to our understanding of the mechanics of these highly variable disease states and the implantable devices used to repair them.
