Task 1.1
Sub-Terahertz MIMO Active Imaging
Task Lead: Buckwalter, Other PIs: Molnar & Gu Objective
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this task will be to explore the energy-efficiency and resolution trade-offs of MIMO radar implemented at 140 and 220 GHz using CMOS/BiCMOS processes. Deliverable. Design and prototype demonstration of dual band Low-Nois-Amplifier and 140/220 GHz Power Amplifier.
Task 1.2
Multi-Wavelength Optical LiDAR
Task Lead: Jelena Notaros, Other PIs: Jonathan Klamkin & Tingyi Gu
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this task is to demonstrate adaptable coherent solid-state LiDAR systems. These systems will be based on integrated swept laser sources for FMCW optical signal generation, integrated-optical-phased-array-based systems for non-mechanical beam forming and steering, and integrated high-speed detector arrays for coherent FMCW-signal detection. Deliverable Demonstration of systems consisting of integrated swept lasers powering beamsteering OPAs to enable adaptable LiDAR systems fabricated in the GlobalFoundries 45CLO process.
Task 1.3
Multimode Passive Imaging
Task Lead: Jane Gu, Other PIs: Tingyi Gu
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this task is ti develop on hyper-spectral passive imagers monitoring blackbody radiation and solar reflection from the environment, at ultra-low power consumption. Deliverable Develop integrated passive imaging covering multi-spectra from mm-wave, THz to infra-red in heterogeneous integrated platform.
Task 1.4
Flexible RF and IF circuits for feature enhancement
Task Lead: Alyosha Molnar, Other PIs: James Buckwalter
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this task is to explore techniques to enable flexible RF processing of RADAR/mmWave imaging signals based on signal features in reflections, to mitigate dynamic range requirements due to high dynamic-range scenes, external interference, and self-interference from the RADAR itself. Deliverable. Silicon demonstration of the proposed signal processing for RADAR/imaging transceivers and transceiver arrays in the high RF and lower mmWave regime.
Task 1.5
Converged 220-GHz Radar and Lidar Receiver Array in Low-cost Packaging
Task Lead: Buckwalter, Other PIs: Bakir & Klamkin
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this task is to develop low-cost 3-D integration approaches to integrate silicon photonic technologies with the millimeter-wave array front-end. Deliverable. Silicon demonstration of the converged pixel packaging solution.
