A Welcome Experience

Uncategorized · November 1, 2018

I’m biracial: half white and half Indian. I come from an all-white county — a really, really conservative county. I’m queer, and I’m not out at home. When I got here, Georgia Tech was very welcoming. It’s nice to see people who are not white, you know? There are biracial people here, too. I’ve felt a lot more accepted. I can make connections with people who are able to relate to me, and the LGBT+ community is great. There are so many more people with similar experiences to mine — I have a lot of closeted friends. I do think the LGBT+ community could use more support, and Tech could use more gender-inclusive education. But overall, I’ve had a positive experience here, in comparison to what I came from. I’m thinking about coming out to my family soon.
