Computation and Craft: Wire-bending Theory and Applications (Spring 2019)

A Course on Design Computation, Craft, and Architecture by Vernelle A. A. Noel

(03) Week 1 – Wire-Bending – No pedagogy

In Week 1 of this course, students were given the artifacts of production in wire-bending (wire, paper and pen, tape, pliers) and asked to craft (design and make) a three-dimensional artifact. They were not taught any techniques or processes as I wanted to gain an understanding of the knowledges and experiences they brought with them. I also wanted to use their existing knowledge as a scaffold for the new things they would be learning.

Below are photos of artifacts made by students in the very first class. No pedagogy.
