It’s common knowledge that we can now sequence nucleic acids like DNA or the RNA in the novel coronavirus, but did you know that there has been huge progress in antiviral therapies in the past 20 years as a result? By respecting social isolation and flattening the curve, you give researchers the time they need to develop new drugs to protect you and loved ones when they get sick. That’s not the only thing coming quickly down the development pipeline that can help you. The FDA has just approved an antibody-based test for determining if someone has resistance against the virus. Currently available tests have poor accuracy and only determine if the virus is physically present. There are even vaccine candidates already, not to mention that isolation protects healthcare workers. There are so many reasons why your efforts to flatten the curve are important!
