Datum Fieldnotes is a powerful data documentation tool designed to enhance your data management and analysis process. This user guide provides comprehensive instructions on how to use Datum Fieldnotes within your browser.
Installing the Tool

To install the tool, click on the extension option in the menu.

Search for “Datum Fieldnotes” in the search bar

Once you click install, you will brought to a permissions screen. Sign in and accept and enjoy the tool!
Activating Datum Fieldnotes
Once the add-on is successfully installed, activate Datum Fieldnotes by following these steps:
- Open a sheet in Google Sheets.
- Click on the Extensions option on the top menu bar
- Hover over Datum Fieldnotes and click “Open Data Tool”

Using Datum Fieldnotes
After activation, Datum Fieldnotes will appear as a sidebar with the following components:
- Selected Cell: Displays information about the currently selected cell in the spreadsheet.
- View Notes: Allows you to view and manage notes associated with the selected cell.
- Session Change History: Displays a list of changes made to the data during the current session.
- Log Sheet: If not yet created, Datum Fieldnotes will automatically generate a log sheet to track
activities.
Logging Changes and Adding Notes
Whenever a change is made in the spreadsheet, Datum Fieldnotes will automatically log the change and add a new block to the Change List. This block will include information about the change, and a button will be provided to add a note specific to that change.


Adding and Viewing Notes
To add a note to a specific change in the Change List
- In the Change List, locate the desired change block.
- Click the Add Note button associated with that change.
- Enter your note in the provided text field and click Save.
- To view notes associated with the selected cell, click on the View Notes button in the sidebar
