Overhead Book Scanner User Guide

The Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 can be used to scan books or other documents.

Turn the scanner on by pressing the trapezoidal shape on the scanner just above the word “Scan” (that whole region is actually a button). You’ll also need to open the “ScanSnap Home” app on the attached iMac. (It’s possible you’ll need to go through a few quick setup steps, which should just involve selecting the SV600 scanner from a list and clicking “next” a few times.)

From here, press the blue “scan” button to access a series of scanning options.

Press “scan” to scan your first page. Try to keep the black mat below the scanner clear of anything other than the document you’re scanning. The subsequent window will prompt you to continue scanning more pages (“continuous scan”) or finish if you’re done with what you want to scan.

When you’re done, the next page allows you to choose “double-page spread,” which works well if you’re scanning a book. This will attempt to flatten/stretch the image a bit.

If you need to fix a particular scan, click “check/correct” and drag the red outline to correct the image. Start with the corners first… it can be a little finnicky. You may need to click and drag a few times to get it to realize what you want it to do — but it is possible! You can minimize the extent to which you’ll need to do this by keeping the black mat clear of obstructions (like the encroaching cable in the image below).

Your project will now be visible in the ScanSnap Home app, where you can open it, or right click (control click on Mac) to copy, show in Finder, etc.

Press and hold the “stop” button to turn off the scanner.

We’re still learning the ropes with this scanner, so feel free to post questions as comments below or contact us directly.
