Atlanta is ranked fifth in the US for the highest gentrification rate. Cabbagetown, Old Fourth Ward, West End, and Edgewood are only but a few of the places being overtaken. Gentrification changes the character of these areas set in place by African American people. The upper class white families that now wish to inhabit these areas are tarnishing the roots and culture that made these places what they are today. The financial greed and desire to drive up property value is the driving force behind displacing poverty stricken people of color. When will preservation overcome genetrification?
