Combining Optics, Photonics, and Phononics to solve real-world problems
The Photonics Research Group (PRG), headed by Dr. Ali Adibi, has been involved in research in numerous theoretical and experimental areas, including optical information processing, nanophotonics, biomedical imaging and sensing, and optoelectronics since Dr. Adibi joined the Georgia Tech faculty in 2000. The group has developed simulation tools that include finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) software capable of 2D and 3D simulations including nonlinear effects, plane-wave expansion (PWE) and effective index approximation software, and modified transfer matrix code. The experimental resources available to the group include several labs used for optical imaging and biosensing experiments, nanophotonic component characterization, ultrafast optical studies, and holography, as well as the silicon nanofabrication facilities located at Georgia Tech’s Microelectronics Research Center (MiRC).
The PRG enjoys collaboration with a number of prestigious organizations, such as the California Institute of Technology, Duke University, the University of Arizona, Agilent Technologies, and Aprilis, Inc. Group member regularly publish in respected science journals, and present at technical conferences across the U.S. and around the world
