Abhirupa completed her undergrad studies in ECE in West Bengal University of Technology, followed by a masters in biomedical engineering in Jadavpur University, in collaboration with their ETCE department where she worked on designing THz plasmonic metasurfaces for cancer detection and studied effects of radiation on cancer cells. She started her PhD at GT working on microwave packaging and dived into photonics after a year. Currently, she is working on designing an optical brain probe which integrated thermo-optic switches and a metalens to focus certain wavelengths on neurons that are ontogenetically activated to respond electrically.
