Episode Description:
On this episode of Campus Curiosities, we explore one of the great mysteries at the Georgia Institute of Technology: The Mickey Mouse clock. I know, I know — very strange. The clock appeared years ago, in a shaded courtyard on the side of the Skiles building, home to the School of Literature, Media, and Communication. And it’s quite striking. In this mix of green space and high-tech facilities, this strange, abstracted cartoon character stands apart. But no one ever truly knew how it got there. Who did it? What was the purpose of it? There are several working theories. One student suggests that it was a sort of student rebellion against the school’s administration — that it represents discontent and nonconformity. Another student suggests that the clock is something a little more sinister. He claims that it has a part in the aftermath of a murder. Our last student suggests that the university put up the clock to encourage students to be innovators in their field. But, of course, there is the possibility that the clock represents nothing at all. But which one is it? In this episode, we’ll discuss these different theories and their implications. Join us and these Tech students in unraveling the creation and meaning behind this campus oddity in today’s episode: “The Mystery of the Mickey Mouse Clock.”
