Episode Description:
As you walk through the doors of the Podcast Library, you hear an involved conversation
from a group in the corner. Scribbled on a piece of paper taped to the wall next to them you read: Loud in the Library: Welcome in.
In this week’s Loud in the Library episode, I invite Rebeccas and TJ on air with me to explore the biases within the Dark Academia online subculture and the role it plays in current college life. College students often find themselves struggling with self image, as so many people are in different stages in life. With many encountering the concept of “The Freshman 15”, we speak to the pressure of meeting cultural beauty standards. This struggle is no stranger to the Dark Academia community, falling victim to body shaming and racial biases. Come listen in on a discussion of the importance in pulling back from romanticizing our experiences, and putting a stronger focus on the acceptance of ourselves and others. We emphasize paying attention to the media we consume and analyzing the drawbacks to aesthetics. The library serves as a safe space for all, even online. So come pull up a chair and join us before we get too loud!
