Project Description: Rates and selectivities of electrochemical reactions depend not only on catalyst identity but also entropic and enthalpic contributions from the electric double layer. Through combination of electrochemical calorimetry and kinetic studies, we aim to unravel the interactions between reactants, ionic species, and solvents at the electrolyte-catalyst interface during electrochemical reactions.  Electrochemical calorimetry can provide key insights into thermodynamic parameters, like the differential heats of adsorption, enthalpy, and entropy, of adsorption processes. Insights from our work can be used to tune reaction rates and selective through electrolyte engineering.
