ARM Initiative Summary Salary Funding
Submit your application here: https://forms.office.com/r/zPpJDrLMnY
The IMS initiative on Autonomous Research for Materials (ARM) is offering summer salary financial support to PIs that submit full, collaborative proposal (PIs from multiple GT schools) of at least $500K to an external agency seeking funds to support materials research that incorporates autonomous physical experimentation (not just computation) and/or the development of self-driving laboratories. Two grants of $4000 each will be awarded between March 14 and May 15, 2025 and must be expended by June 30, 2025.
The intention of this call is to promote submissions of proposals in the topical area of autonomous materials research so that a larger community can be built on campus. If you think your efforts meet the intentions of this call but seem to be restricted by the requirements listed below, please contact the initiative leads to see if an exception can be made. The burdens for submitting for this support are intended to be low – the intention is to encourage more PIs to submit proposals that incorporate autonomous experimentation in their proposals so the campus community in this area can be grown.
Requirements:
- Proposal must seek funding to support autonomous physical experimentation (not just computation) and/or develop self-driving laboratories for materials research or materials discovery.
- Proposal must include at least 2 PIs/Co-PIs from Georgia Tech
- To be considered “multidisciplinary”, the 2+ PIs from Georgia Tech must represent 2 or more different Schools. (All from the same college is fine.)
- Total proposed budget (funds coming to GT) must be at least $500,000
- Must indicate support from the Institute for Matter and Systems in eRouting form
- Proposal should be submitted after January 1, 2025.
Submit the information below at this link: https://forms.office.com/r/zPpJDrLMnY
- Title of Proposal
- Agency and Proposal Call information (website if possible)
- Names and affiliations of PIs and Co-PIs.
- Total funds requested.
- Abstract clearly indicating how proposal meets the criteria listed above, specifically for autonomous physical experimentation of materials research. Copy-pasting from your proposal is fine; it should not be necessary to write anything extensive. Just clearly justify how proposal matches Review Criteria listed below.
- Confirmation that you have indicated on the eRouting forms that support was provided from the Institute for Matter and Systems.
- Confirmation that your proposal has been submitted or will be soon. (Negotiable)
Submission Deadlines:
- Initial review deadline: March 14, 2025
- Final review deadline: May 5, 2025
Review Criteria:
- Awards will be decided by initiative leads. Awards will be granted to the proposals that best match the intentions of the ARM Initiative. Award priority will be given to proposals that (1) emphasize the development of autonomous physical experimentation systems that advance materials research and (2) build an interdisciplinary community of researchers at Georgia Tech for autonomous experimentation in materials.
Once awarded, PIs are also free to distribute portions of these funds to co-PIs if desired.
PIs can submit multiple requests (for different proposals), but PIs can only be awarded one grant.
Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis starting March 14, and all funds may be distributed before May 5. Thus, PIs are encouraged to submit early. (Ideally once your proposal is submitted or if submission is imminent for the initial March 14 review.)
