Human-Augmented Analytics Group (HAAG) is a experimental virtual laboratory for applied data science collaboration (first proprosed at DemoCon 24′). HAAG founded Director Breanna Shi in May 2024 as a 4th year Bioinformatic PhD student with only 15 participants and currently hosts 120 researchers at the masters, PhD, Post-Doc, and Faculty level (May 2025). HAAG works on a open enrollment model that allows faculty to affiliate their on-going projects with our team of graduate researchers and network of research management services. HAAG prides itself on simultaneously facilitating an new research opportunities through its course offerings, programming, and faculty services

Applied Data Science Research for Social Good (CS 8903 & CS 6999)

This is HAAG’s flagship program which allows faculty to host exploratory data science projects. HAAG hosts projects from our HAAG faculty affiliates that allows CS masters students to earn up to 3 semesters of academic credits and a research distinction on their degree for contributions to an interdisciplinary data science project. The course deploys the Framework for Accelerating Interdisciplinary research in Computer Science (FAIR-CS), first proposed by Shi et al. at PEARC 25′, which defines a system for managing collaborative projects across multiple faculty affiliates by minimizing advisor fatigue while maximizing research outcomes.

HAAG provides a a variety of experience-based learning opportunities to its participants:

Faculty Affiliates for Transdisciplinary Expansion (FATE) program

HAAG Faculty Research community of practice Dedicated to the advancement of Transdisciplinary Science Research. Here assist faculty pitch and brainstorm new project ideas, as well as, share best practices when managing interdisciplinary data science teams.

Research Operations Project Management Practicum (MGT 8803 & CS 8803)

Research Operations Project Management Practicum is a project-driven course piloting in Fall 2025 in which MBA students partner with Online Masters students in Computer Science (OMSCS) to manage research projects and propose novel project management solutions to improve the effectiveness of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Cross-disciplinary Leadership Education for Advanced Researchers (CLEAR) Program

HAAG’s Premier Leadership education Program where PhDs and Post-Docs invited to practice their skills in a live research environment (HAAG). The CLEAR program trains participants in the Management Education for Navigating Transdisciplinary Online Research in Computer Science (MENTOR-CS) proposed by Shi et. al at Democon 25′ (under-review).

Undergraduate Certificate in Experience-Based Teaching

Professional Development initiatives propose to increase the undergraduate proficiency as teaching and research assistants.
