What is HAAG?

The Human-Augmented Analytics Group is a virtual research initiative that bridges the gap between computational expertise and research needs.

Online CS Master’s Students

Adult Learners With Professional Experience

New to Research

Big Data Collecting Labs

Need computational talent

Goal: Develop and publish research tools through 3-semester collaborative projects.

The Challenge

🧪 Non-computational PIs

non-computational labs can struggle to advise computational projects, lacking the technical expertise to guide students to analyze their data.

👨‍🏫 Overloaded CS Faculty

Computer science professors, already managing full teaching and research loads, cannot commit time to short-term advising opportunities.

💡 Solution? Early Career Advisors!

📅 Time Commitment: ~5 hours/week

Participate in structured reviews for ongoing student projects

📝 Your Role

Mirror that of a conference or journal reviewer – guide students toward higher-quality submissions

🏆 Recognition

Be credited as co-author on the resulting publication

How It Works

1

Project Matching

You’ll be matched with an interdisciplinary project led by faculty affiliates who will share their research goals.

2

Training & Goal Setting

Receive training in research project management and develop your own objectives for the project.

3

Regular Meetings

Meet with students bi-weekly and faculty affiliates monthly to ensure progress toward research goals.

4

Publication Support

Two weeks before submission, provide additional feedback rounds and virtual meetings as needed.

❓

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How is authorship determined?

Leadership reviews authorship order based on:

  • Contribution of ideas that remain in the final work
  • Execution of work included in the final submission

Proposed order is shared with all contributors, with opportunity to appeal if needed.

2. How will I know if my feedback is effective?

Our admin team will reach out if there are concerns about review quality. HAAG hosts workshops and shares best practices based on insights across projects.
