FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1) What is the purpose of the survey?
The purpose of the project is to understand the knowledge creation process, focusing on three themes: the composition of scientific teams (size, disciplines, institutions), management of the research process,
and the impact of the structure and composition of collaboration on both scientific and commercial outcomes of the research.
2) Who is sponsoring the project?
The survey is sponsored by the Japanese National Institute of Science and Technology Policy.
The project grew out of an NSF sponsored workshop “Collaboration and Productivity in Science”.
3) Why was I chosen for the survey?
The papers were randomly drawn from the Web of Science database. For each paper, we chose one author (generally the reprint author, first author or last author) to answer the survey.
4) I am only a post-doc/graduate student, should I still answer the survey?
Yes. We are interested in information from all fields and from all types of researchers. Please answer the survey to the best of your abilities. If there are particular items you do not know, answer “don’t know” or skip the item.
