Our Mission

K-GTSEC aims to serve as a cooperation hub within prestigious foreign research institutions for collaboration with Korea, supporting global technological cooperation between Korean companies and overseas semiconductor-related research institutions and companies. For the successful achievement of its objectives, K-GTSEC will be located within the Georgia Institute of Technology focusing on the support and cooperation of the Institute for Electronics and Nanotechnology (IEN) and the 3D Systems Packaging Research Center (PRC), which are key facilities for the development of core semiconductor technologies

Center Operation

The center aims to establish a global industrial technology center in the US for the joint research and development of semiconductor and electronics technologies with Korean industries and Georgia Tech’s researchers. The center, built and operated in Georgia Tech, will serve as a collaboration hub for supporting global technological partnerships of Korean companies across the US to accelerate innovation and commercialization in advancing innovative semiconductors, and electronic systems.

In fostering the K-GTSEC and its international cooperation, the specialized roles of dedicated organizations within institutions are pivotal. Georgia Tech stands out with its proactive global project initiatives. With a workforce adept in international administration, Georgia Tech facilitates partnerships with various international research institutions. The integration of PRC with the WISH center underscores our focus on global collaboration in the realms of electronics and healthcare, advancing beyond traditional packaging and semiconductors.

These centers not only foster technological entrepreneurship among students and faculty but also streamline the technology transfer and commercialization processes. Additionally, the WISH center maintains dedicated programs and partners, including ETRI, GCMI, WisMedical, EXPROPIAN, Progenacare, ybrain, T&I, and EI2 for active exchange and project execution with international entities, directly contributing to the K-GTSEC’s mission

Georgia Tech has extensively collaborated with the world’s leading manufacturers in the semiconductor industry and many other global companies. Particularly, PI and Co-PIs at K-GTSEC have conducted approximately 49 corporate research collaborations and 74 research partnerships with total funding exceeding $18 million over the past decade, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in feature-rich semiconductor technology. Recently, Georgia Tech and Global Foundries have made a partnership to advance semiconductor innovation while helping prepare and train a new generation of talented young people for careers in the semiconductor industry.
