Title: Guided Reinforcement Learning to Learn Interactive Motor Skills

Abstract: Intelligent robot companions have the potential to improve the quality of human life significantly by changing how we live, work, and play. While recent advances in software and hardware have opened new horizons in robotics, state-of-the-art robots are still far from seamlessly blending into our daily lives due to challenges in human-level scene understanding, motion control, safety, and rich interactions. I envision legged robots as intelligent machines capable of performing diverse real-world motor tasks in human environments, such as home arrangements, last-mile delivery, and assistive tasks for disabled individuals. In this talk, I will discuss relevant multi-disciplinary research topics, particularly focusing on extending deep reinforcement learning algorithms to effectively learn more complex interactive motor skills.

Bio: Dr. Sehoon Ha is an assistant professor in the Georgia Tech School of Interactive Computing. His research lies at the intersection of computer graphics and robotics, focusing on intelligent virtual characters and capable real-world robots. He has experience at Google and Disney Research and holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech. His work has garnered multiple awards, including an NSF CAREER Award, and has been featured in major media outlets.
