Welcome! I am Reza Marzban, a committed PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where I specialize in harnessing the transformative power of photonics integrated with artificial intelligence. Originating from Melbourne, Australia, my academic path has granted me a global perspective in pushing the boundaries of optical technologies.

My research ambition is to harness advanced AI techniques to develop multifunctional optical devices. These sophisticated devices are instrumental not only in shaping today’s technology landscape but also in pioneering applications across diverse fields such as imaging systems, healthcare, environmental monitoring, and telecommunications.

In my work, I employ scientific machine learning and inverse design strategies to create innovative photonic structures. These structures are designed to manipulate light in novel ways, thereby enhancing device functionality and paving the way for revolutionary applications, including advanced imaging techniques, data transmission, and computational optics.

As a senior mentor with the AI-based Discovery and Innovation Group under Georgia Tech’s Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) program, I guide over 22 undergraduate and graduate students through ambitious, long-term projects that focus on optical neural networks, computational metamaterials, and deep learning for nanophotonics. This role underscores my commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineers and researchers.

Additionally, I have honed my practical skills in laboratory characterization. Within our research group, I have led the implementation of crucial characterization setups, including automated angle-resolved and reflection and transmission measurement systems. These contributions are essential for advancing our research in photonic materials and devices, demonstrating my proficiency in both theoretical and practical aspects of photonics engineering.
