EVENT NAME Capstone Design: Week #1 Studio and Lab EVENT DATE: WEDNESDAY, 19 AUGUST, 2020 - 12:30 PM to 01:30 PM EVENT BY: AMIT JARIWALA Posted Questions [12:34 PM] Connor Meeds asked : Gatherly.io crashed 3x or so the other day for students. Has this been addressed? 27 upvotes | 2 answers | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - We worked with gatherly after the VIP event; we've been informed they've added capacity to address the problems that were experienced. Keep your fingers crossed, and such other extremities as are flexible enough... Kenneth Cunefare answered - ...and we've got a Plan B should we need it; we'll let you know what the plan is should we need it. [12:46 PM] anonymous asked : what is the deadline to find a team and what happen if we can not find a team by then? 18 upvotes | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Amit should address this shortly [12:56 PM] anonymous asked : Today in Gatherly, should we initially go to our assigned floor based on our registered section? Or do we just pick a floor and table to meet our group members which are in multiple different sections? 13 upvotes | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Depends on your state of team formation; if you've already got a team mostly formed, you could go to the section where most of you are currently enrolled. Or, given a faculty member's interest in a project that you're interested in, you might go to their floor. We're not taking attendance :) Use the floors to assist your team formation, and to explore projects with faculty. [12:46 PM] anonymous asked : Will we be assigned new advisors after we form teams? As of now, some members of my team belong to different sections within ME 4182. 6 upvotes | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Yes. We go through a team-to-project-to-advisor matching process. We handle all the administrative moves with the registrar to move folks into the same section with your advisor. [01:27 PM] Taylor Hetrick asked : If there are multiple sponsors that chose a team for a project does the team get to chose which bid they accept? 6 upvotes | 1 answer | 1 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Sponsors don't choose teams. The faculty assign a team to a project with a sponsor. We weigh the bids for a given project, and award it to a team. Taylor Hetrick replied - Fantastic thank you! [01:21 PM] Ryan Grigsby asked : Is the Invention studio also limited to 2 per team, or can everyone get trained there? 5 upvotes | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - No limits in IS. [01:31 PM] Galo Arias asked : I cant figure out how to remove someone from a team. One of our members dropped the class so he has no access to remove himself from the group or decline the invitation. How can I remove that member? 5 upvotes | 0 answer | 0 reply MANUAL RESPONSE BY AMIT JARIWALA: The platform only allows the student to leave the group. Either ask the student to log into the site andremove themselves or send an email to webmatser@capstone.gatech.edu with the specifics to fix this issue. [12:41 PM] Caitlin Nycum asked : When can BMEs in the multi-D section expect to be added to the BME capstone Canvas page? 4 upvotes | 1 answer | 1 reply James Rains answered - Just added BME students to the BME Capstone Canvas site. Let me know if you have issues with it. Caitlin Nycum replied - I see it, thank you! [01:26 PM] anonymous asked : Is there a limit on the number of bids we can make? 4 upvotes | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - No. BUT, be aware that if you bid on a project, and you are awarded that project, you're expected to take on that project. If you don't get your #1 priority project, your #2 becomes your #1, and we roll that process throughout. [12:42 PM] anonymous asked : Suppose we have an interest in a faculty project that less than 2 others also have an interest. Can we still sign up for that project or are we forced to join a team to undertake a project we do not like or want to do? 2 upvotes | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Minimum team size is 4; project topic may require a compromise among the team. [01:29 PM] anonymous asked : Would it be possible to share successful bids from previous semesters? 2 upvotes | 0 answer | 0 reply [01:27 PM] anonymous asked : Can we get an idea on how long the bid should be? 1 upvote | 1 answer | 1 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Length isn't the issue; you have a communication objective to concisely speak to the points on the "What is a good bid" slide. anonymous replied - Ok, thank you [01:30 PM] anonymous asked : what is the min/max team size if any? 1 upvote | 1 answer | 1 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Minimum 4; maximum 6 anonymous replied - this is across schools ME, ECE etc ? MANUAL RESPONSE BY AMIT JARIWALA: Yes. Although in rare circumstances, depending on the project scope a team of more than 6 can be approved if all faculty from the majors represented in the team are in agreement. [01:37 PM] Connor Meeds asked : Do we drop both the lecture and lab course if we're switching our oscar registrations? 1 upvote | 0 answer | 0 reply MANUAL RESPONSE BY AMIT JARIWALA: Please stay registered in your currently enrolled section. [01:43 PM] anonymous asked : Our group consists of all ME students, excluding one ECE student. In one of the slides it said for groups to move to the interdisciplinary section which, for ME, is pretty much full. Should we all remain in our respective sections or should we reach out to our advisor and move the ECE student over? 1 upvote | 1 answer | 0 reply Amit Jariwala answered - It is OK if you are UNABLE to change your registration [12:43 PM] anonymous asked : Are we supposed to have a separate canvas page for our lab section? For instance ME-4182-A04? 0 upvote | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Each lab section should have their own Canvas page, but they may not be published yet. [01:24 PM] anonymous asked : Where on the MMM site is the training request? 0 upvote | 0 answer | 0 reply [01:24 PM] Omari Hodge asked : Just to Clarify Our back up project will need to be approved if its our own idea correct? 0 upvote | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Yes; that's a negotiation process with a faculty member. [01:28 PM] Henry Dang asked : My team's idea is already on marketplace. Does that mean we still have to bid for it? 0 upvote | 0 answer | 0 reply MANUAL RESPONSE BY AMIT JARIWALA: Yes, you HAVE to bid on your own project idea as well and asign it a priority ranking. However, this bid need not be competitive since we will not be comparing your bid with other bids for our own project. [01:29 PM] anonymous asked : Do student projects bid need a proper description? If I am in the team that created the project, would I lose the project to others? 0 upvote | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - It needs a descriptive title. No, you can't lose your project to another team. [01:30 PM] Tien-Sheng Wang asked : if we have a team of 2 people by the deadline will they be split up or can they be kept together? 0 upvote | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - More than likely split; minimum team size is 4. [01:35 PM] Steven Nguyen asked : I did not get an email on how to set up a capstone account how should i get that information? 0 upvote | 0 answer | 0 reply MANUAL RESPONSE BY AMIT JARIWALA: Please send an email to webmaster@capstone.gatech.edu with your GT Username. [01:36 PM] Lachlan Suter asked : can we go to floors not in our specific section that has the faculty advisor we'd like to propose our bids to? 0 upvote | 1 answer | 0 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - Yes! See answer to earlier question. [01:37 PM] anonymous asked : Im on a team right now and it says Im accepted to it but it says "Student already in another group." Is that a problem? 0 upvote | 0 answer | 0 reply MANUAL RESPONSE BY AMIT JARIWALA: Not a problem. If you are in a team then you can ignore the note. There was a minor software updated pushed this evening and so you should no longer see this note. If you still do, then please send an email with screenshot to webmaster@capstone.gatech.edu [01:38 PM] Jared Bean asked : Are all the Capstone sections able to be remotely joined? In early correspondence by the ME department, certain sections required on-campus participation, if I recall correctly. 0 upvote | 1 answer | 2 replies Kenneth Cunefare answered - All of the ME Capstone sections should permit remote-only members within blended teams. Jared Bean replied - Thank you. What section am I supposed to switch to? I saw it on the slides but forgot to right it down. Jared Bean replied - Write it down, rather. MANUAL RESPONSE BY AMIT JARIWALA: Slides and videos are all posted here: http://mecapstone.gatech.edu/students. No need to change your registration. [01:41 PM] anonymous asked : Our group consists of all ME students, excluding one ECE student. In one of the sides it said for groups to move to the interdisplinary 0 upvote | 0 answer | 0 reply [02:15 PM] Bhavik Desai asked : Does our skills section matter for bid consideration? Or is that more for trying to find team members? 0 upvote | 1 answer | 1 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - For a bid, you want to link (in prose) how your team members' skills and experience position the team for success with that specific project. Bhavik Desai replied - Okay great thank you so much! [02:38 PM] Bhavik Desai asked : Sorry this may have been asked already but will the slides provided today be available for us to view? 0 upvote | 1 answer | 1 reply Kenneth Cunefare answered - They're linked off the ME Capstone schedule page (mecapstone.gatech.edu).
