Fall 2020 Outdoor Practices (8/19/20)

Hi everyone, we have some exciting news! The GT Competitive Sports office has declared that we are officially in phase two, and our club is beginning to hold outdoor practices. We are not holding tryouts this semester, and all students are welcome! There are also no dues for this semester. Only current students are allowed to come (need an active buzzcard and have paid the athletic fee), so unfortunately, alumni cannot practice with us.

Practices for this week are on Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-8:30pm at the burger bowl field in the corner closest to the CRC. The courts are sized for grass 6’s with an 8ft net.

There are a few requirements to practice:

  • Temperature check upon arrival with the safety officer (Zach)
  • Fill out the safety monitor form/sign into engage
  • COVID surveillance test within the last 7 days
  • A mask on when playing on the court, off the court, and when near others
    • Gators (wrap-around masks) are not acceptable masks
    • Bringing a second mask for after practice is recommended (you will sweat)
  • No high-fives, restrain yourselves to elbows or fist bumps
  • Balls will be wiped and dried by the off group
  • The on group will switch with the off group every 15-20 minutes
  • When you rotate on or off, sanitize your hands
  • Groups will be no larger than 10 (yes, this means no 6v6 for the time being but we can do 6person defense drills against a setter + 3 hitter offense)
  • Groups will not be rotated within the same practice and will ideally shape out to be consistent from week to week once they are balanced

Safety is our number 1 priority, so we’re going to be strict with these requirements! It won’t feel great to play with a mask on, but we hope that it’ll allow us to continue playing without increasing the number of cases. We’ll see you on Tuesday!

Fall 2020 (8/16)

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the new GT Men’s Club Volleyball website! This website has been much needed since there hasn’t been a way for new members to learn about the club, so please send this site to anyone who is interested in joining our club or learning more. The past few months have been crazy, and we want to thank you for being patient with us as we make our plans to return this fall. We are taking the guidance of the GT Competitive Sports Office, and we are following a three phase restart plan to safely return to play. We are currently in phase one, in which our club will not be meeting in person.  Instead, we will be organizing safe ways for all new potential members to interact and meet current members while learning about the club. When phase two comes, we will be exploring options to hold tryouts and practices outside on the Burger Bowl fields. There is no set date for when phase two will begin as it is dependent on many factors, but we will keep you informed as we learn more. In the meantime, check back for updates about phase one, and email us or DM our Instagram account to learn how to join our club virtually and meet our current members!
