Dr. Michael Evans graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and minor in Mathematics. He then enrolled in graduate school at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry under the direction of Prof. Jeffrey Moore in 2013. His thesis work concerned the implementation and studies of early flipped-classroom models of organic chemistry instruction as well as the development of web-based educational technologies for the teaching of organic and bio-organic chemistry. In 2013, Dr. Evans joined the faculty in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology as an Academic Professional and First-year Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator. in 2018, he was promoted to Senior Academic Professional and in 2023, he became the Director of First-year Chemistry. He teaches lecture courses in organic and general chemistry and the First-year Seminar course (GT 1000).
Dr. Evans lives in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia, with his wonderful wife Jess two children Wallace and Winston, and rambunctious dog Bernie.
