Dev Tools — Student Discounts and Free

This is not an exhaustive list of dev tools, it’s based on suggestions from users like you.

Some items might be listed on the front page as well, like Jetbrains. First up here:

Perplexity

I was talking here about the attempt to get 500 signups for GA Tech, that is over, we got the 500 and our accounts converted to a full year.

It looks like they were in business before ChatGPT rolled out, and for some dev related questions it’s better, according to the Reddit post.

TryHackMe

Jetrbrains / PyCharm / Intellij / PHPStorm / etc

Tower Client for Git

https://www.git-tower.com/students

This is a GUI-based Git client. Me, I’m old school, I do all my git on the command line, and if I really want a graphical diff I’ll bring up Pycharm or compare a branch on Github. But this looks pretty cool.

Honestly I went to install it and it wanted me to install .NET and I took a pass.

Azure

AWS

There used to be an “AWS Educate” program that got you free access to paid AWS resources in a sandbox environment, this was provided by Vocareum. Those days are gone.

I have to look into AWS and what they offer, there are Educational videos and training courses, but I don’t think they offer any more free services beyond “Free Tier.”

I looked at this page: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/aws-educate-credits-training-content-and-collaboration-for-students-educators/

Seems like a “womp womp” to me:

Note they are taking on the world in 2022 but refocusing in 2023, I think that’s when they took away the freebies. If you find something different please comment on this page thanks.
