Overview

The mission of the Engineering Analytics group is to solve challenging engineering problems using data analytic methods. The focus is on the innovative application of the existing data analytic tools or development of new data analytic tools motivated by real engineering problems. A major strength of the group is in making the experiments on the physical system and simulations using computer models more efficient and building fast surrogate models for prediction with proper uncertainty quantification. These data analytic tools are used for understanding the deficiency of the physics-based theory and thus, helping engineers and scientists develop better models to explain the phenomenon under investigation. This interaction between theory, experiments, computation, and data is the basis of scientific and engineering discovery and is at the core of the group’s research agenda.
