Music sampling is an art of borrowing a piece of track from another song and meshing it into a new song. Sampling can be used in various ways, such as a section of music can be sped up or slowed down, shortened, or processed using effects. Sampling can be as basic as using a tiny snippet of sound or as great as an extended section of music. It is most often used in looping, where someone will take a section of the beat from an older song and play it on repeat within another. Music sampling has grown very popular in the 1980’s and only continues to grow to this day and is used in various creative ways where moral and copyright issues have arisen.
This example of Britney Spear’s song “Toxic” sampling a Bollywood song ,”Tere Mere Beech Mein”, showcases one instance of sampling in mainstream music.
