About Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia, combines the entertainment, educational, and economic opportunities of an international city with the flavor and personality of close-knit, eclectic neighborhoods.

Our Midtown neighborhood is a thriving place to create, learn, live, work, and play. The city's network of diverse neighborhoods offers a taste of home for everyone — from apartments, lofts, and high-rises to small bungalows or impressive mansions. As the state's economic and cultural hub, Atlanta is packed with attractions, small businesses, high-tech startups, and multinational corporations, along with restaurants, theaters, museums, and concert venues.

Within an easy walk to campus are green spaces and parks, including Centennial Olympic Park, Piedmont Park, and the Atlanta BeltLine — a network of public parks, multi-use trails, and multiple public transit options.

Atlanta International Airport (ATL)

Why should you care about the airport?

If you plan to travel at all during your PhD years, you should consider that ATL will make your life much easier than most other airports. ATL is relatively close to campus (14 minutes by car and 30 minutes by MARTA). ATL is the second most connected airport in the US (8th in the world). This should reduce the number of hops that you have to go through.

From ATL to Campus

Via MARTA: You may choose to use Atlanta's public transportation system, MARTA. There is a rail station located inside the airport. This service offers the quickest and most inexpensive way to get to Georgia Tech. All trains leaving the airport travel north toward Georgia Tech. The Airport Station is located near the baggage claim area at the north end of the airport. Trains leave approximately every 10 minutes. For more information about traveling to campus via MARTA click here.

Via Rideshare Services: After collecting your bags at baggage claim, you will follow signs to the rideshare pick-up lot. It is about a 5 minute walk to the designated rideshare pickup area. It is recommended to wait to order your ride, until you have arrived at the pick-up location. The Student Center Parking Deck is located on Ferst Drive (353 Ferst Drive NW, Atlanta 30332) next to the Smithgall Student Services Building & the Student Center. Fare is approximately $35. For pick-up from the Student Center Parking Deck, you would provide the same address as listed above.
