Interested in participating in an international mathematical modeling challenge?
The SIMIODE Challenge Using Differential Equations Modeling (SCUDEM) is an annual 3-student group mathematical modeling challenge that offers:
- Skill Development: You’ll enhance your problem-solving and analytical skills by tackling real-world modeling problems using differential equations.
- Teamwork: Working in a team of three fosters collaboration and communication, essential skills for both academic and professional environments.
- Networking: You’ll connect with peers, mentors, and professionals from around the world, expanding your academic and professional network.
- Recognition: Successful participation can lead to awards and recognition, which can be valuable for graduate school applications and job opportunities.
- Practical Experience: You’ll gain hands-on experience in applying mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios, preparing you for future research or industry roles.
Dr. Greg Mayer is using this site to help Georgia Tech students and their team members who are participating in the upcoming SCUDEM challenge prepare for the event.
How Does SCUDEM Work?
- Each group has two weeks to propose a solution to one of three challenges in the form of a 10 minute video.
- Teams choose one of the Challenge Problems provided in the areas of physics/engineering, chemistry/life sciences, and the social sciences.
- Videos are reviewed by judges from all over the world. Each submission is given an award of either Outstanding, Meritorious, or Successful.
Interested in Participating?
- The mathematical challenge is approachable to anyone who has completed an integral calculus course.
- It isn’t necessary to have completed a differential equations course to participate.
- There is a registration fee that students need to pay. In Fall 2024 the fee each student needed to pay was around $33.
- Each team of three students must register with a coach.
Dr. Mayer would be happy to coach more students! If you are interested please send him an email.
