About Us

Tutoring and Academic Support is a unit within the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE). We are conveniently located on the second floor of the G. Wayne Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, Suite 283. We also manage the Tutoring Reception Desk in Suite 273.

Location and Hours

Some of our programs and services include:

1-to-1 Tutoring is an appointment-based tutoring service available to all undergraduate students and covers 200+ different courses but primarily 1000- and 2000-level courses.

PLUS (Peer-Led Undergraduate Study) sessions help students enrolled in traditionally challenging courses learn in a relaxed, collaborative environment.

Drop-In Tutoring is offered in many high-demand subjects for walk-up help from course TAs and tutors.

Learning Assistant Program brings active learning to the classroom.

Alonzo Simmons

Alonzo Simmons

PLUS Coordinator

Alonzo is a PLUS Coordinator and manages the day-to-day operations for the PLUS (Peer-Led Undergraduate Study) program. Alonzo joins us from Florida A&M University where he has been a Learning Center Coordinator and Social Media Manager.

Alonzo Simmons is a PLUS Coordinator for Tutoring and Academic Support. He will manage the day-to-day operations for the PLUS (Peer-Led Undergraduate Study) program. He will help promote our faculty collaborations and student staff development. 

Alonzo joins TAS from Florida A&M University where he has been a Learning Center Coordinator and Social Media Manager. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Florida A&M University.

Assistant Director

Erica Chaviano earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a minor in Organizational Leadership and her Master’s of Science in Higher Education Administration from Buffalo State College in upstate New York. She oversees the 1-to-1 Tutoring and Drop-In Tutoring programs.

Prior to joining the Georgia Tech team, Erica worked in the Office of Housing and Residence Life as a Housing Supervisor for 5 years at Valdosta State University. Working with underrepresented student leaders and cultivating opportunities for students to feel supported, safe, and connected are Erica’s reasons for the work she does. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and taking recommendations for new shows to binge!
