Symptoms:
- Bleeding
- Redness or swelling around cut
- Pain or irritation at skin surface
Causes:
- Skin is accidentally broken or worn away
- Result of fall
- Banging against a hard object
- Something sharp
Treatments:
- Clean cut with water and soap
- Use antiseptics on area surrounding the cut
- Dress wound with topical antibiotic to prevent infection
- Stop the bleeding by applying clean bandage and pressure
- Antibiotics if it gets infected
When to see a Doctor:
- If cut doesn’t stop bleeding within 10 minutes
- If cuts get infected
- Deep cut
- Expose muscle or fat tissue
- Cut near eye
- Remain visibly dirty after being cleaned
- Cuts on joint or area where stitches might be needed to keep cut close
