Symptoms:

  • Acute:
    • Sudden severe pain
    • Swelling
    • Cannot place weight on leg, knee, ankle or foot
    • Joint is tender
    • Mobility of joint is not as good
    • Bone or joint is visibly out of place
  • Chronic:
    • Pain when you play or exercise
    • Dull ache when you rest
    • Swelling

Causes:

  • Accidents
  • Poor training practices
  • Improper gear
  • Being out of condition
  • Not warming up or stretching before you play or exercise

Treatments:

  • RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation)
  • Medications (anti-inflammatories)
  • Surgery
  • Physical therapy
  • Limiting movement (immobilization)
