Measles

Diagnosis:

  • Rashes are usually small, bluish white spots on a bright red background
  • If necessary blood tests can confirm rashes

Symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Red eyes
  • Light Sensitivity
  • Muscle Aches
  • Runny Nose
  • Sore Throat
  • White Spots inside the mouth
  • Widespread Skin Rash

Treatment:

There are no treatments for measles infection but some measures include:

  • Obtaining Post-exposure vaccination
  • Immune Serum Globulin-antibodies can prevent measles or make symptoms less severe
  • Ask your doctor about Antibiotics if a bacterial infection such as pneumonia or ear infection develops

For Immediate Relief:

  • Acetaminophen to relieve fever and muscle aches
  • Rest to boost immune system
  • Plenty of fluids (6-8 glasses of water/day)
  • Vitamin A supplements
