What sections of the essay interested you the most?
My favorite section of the “That Good Haircut Feeling” essay is the part where Michael keeps showing pictures of Greek islands to the author. I believe this to be not only an illustration of the love Michael still has for his home country but also a proof that the author is a great listener and an amazing narrator, a quality that not many young people have in our generation.
What techniques did the author use to capture your attention?
The narrator used a relaxed tone during the story and included jokes and specific details in order to induce the feeling of presence in their story. I didn’t feel for a second that I was reading an essay but rather that I was reading a story, almost like I was part of that story and I was just trying to refresh my memory.
What do you think the author learned by writing this essay?
I believe the author learned the importance of living one day at a time and the importance of reflecting on big decisions in your life from the emotional perspective, not just from the objective perspective. He understood the importance of doing something that you like as a job, and not just doing it for money.
What did you learn/discover by reading the essay?
After reading this essay I can say that a good writer doesn’t have to be naturally talented at writing but, more importantly, a good writer is a person that has the gift of viewing the world from a certain perspective. A good writer should be able to tell the same story in a thousand different ways.
Moreover, the importance of traveling around the world and seeing new perspectives can only amplify your capacity to view the world from an original point of view.
