Biological Growth

Biological Growth on wood is a general term that can be used when there is evidence of micro-organism infiltration on wooded members, but the specific organism is not yet identified. The growth is of living organisms, such as algae, fungal rot, mildew, mosses, vines and other types of plants on or penetrating wood surfaces. It is best to identify specific organisms which can then assist with a repair or removal plan for the organism. Some molds, such as black mold, are toxic and need special handling during removal. Generally moisture sources must be controlled as well through proper maintenance.
