Missing Paint
Wood generally relies on paint or coatings to protect exterior surfaces. Historic paint generally contains Lead-Based Paint components and so care must be taken when around deteriorated paint. If surfaces are sound, all that may be needed is removal of paint (generally with a damp medium) and surfaces properly prepared and repainted. See also Weathered Surface Deterioration – SD.
