For Artifact 3, we have been analyzing letters written home by soldiers during World War II and observing the significance of the political and social landscape of the time period in relation to the content of the letters. This is an important archive to analyze because most information that is publicized about the war comes from third-party sources or historians, not the people that were actually there. By examining letters written on the front lines by the common, lower ranking soldiers, the real stories from these common folk can be uncovered. It is significant to analyze these letters in order to gain an understanding on the factors that contributed to World War II and how the culture of the world was during the time period. Through further investigation, we were able to determine the social and political norms of the time period through the censorship of the letters during the time period.
