My name is Alex Vitale and I grew up in Marietta GA. My whole life it seems, I’ve been exposed to engineering without even knowing it. Ever since I was little, I have always been fond of building. It started with Legos and Lincoln Logs. As I got older, I started helping my dad restore pinball machines and then we built one of our own. In high school, I joined the high school robotics team and have put many of these same skills to use on the varsity build team. I work with a group of students to design and build a robot that can perform the assigned task.
However, in high school I was also introduced to computer science and developed a similar interest in it. It came very naturally to me and my Dad worked in the field, so it was hard to decide between engineering and computer science. In college I decided to get my degree in mechanical engineering and settle for a minor in computer science because I couldn’t easily do it the other way around.
My goal is to go into a field that happily couples these two interests, like robotics or mechatronics.

Hobbies
On Saturday mornings, I wake up early to go to garage sales with my father and brother. We look for video games that are collectible, and old electronics, among other items. We keep some for ourselves and pay for our shopping sprees by selling the remainder on eBay. We like broken items because the price is low so the profit will be high assuming we can repair them. I like going because I never know what I’ll find. I have countless of interesting stories and projects that came out of this hobby.
I am also really into video games, and have spent countless hours playing and I’ve even have played on some of the most obscure systems that almost nobody has ever heard of, like the Virtual Boy or the Sega Nomad. Some of my favorite games/series: Skyrim, The Legend of Zelda, The Witcher, Pokémon, and Mario.
