Welcome to the AI Pedagogy Portal

The Georgia Tech Writing and Communication Program AI Pedagogy Portal (APP) is an initiative of the WCP AI Working Group, created as part of our participation in the 2024-2025 AAC&U Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum. The Fundamentals of Generative AI section is fully populated and available for use, but the Developing an AI Pedagogy and Exploring Generative AI Further sections are still under construction.

Welcome to the Writing and Communication Program’s AI Pedagogy Portal (APP). This resource was developed by the WCP’s AI Working Group to provide WCP faculty with a shared overview of AI pedagogy. The APP covers key policy guidance and context on current discussions around GenAI in education. It also provides resources for faculty interested in pursuing a specific topic, issue, or question related to AI and writing and communication pedagogy. WCP faculty and leadership believe that no matter our stance on AI, it is important that all instructional faculty develop foundational AI literacy to provide our students with guidance and support that is grounded in research.

The APP focuses on generative AI (GenAI), as that is the type of AI most dramatically impacting writing and communication pedagogy. GenAI technologies are developing at a rapid pace. What is true today may not be true tomorrow. In response to these circumstances, the APP aims to be nimble: development will be ongoing as technologies, pedagogical best practices, and resources change. While we believe that it is important to have this program-specific resource, we have not attempted to replicate valuable work that exists elsewhere. As such, part of the ethos of this project is curatorial, and we have not shied away from quoting at length or providing ample links to other resources. Depending upon where you are in your time at Georgia Tech, this portal can meet different needs.

New to the WCP or looking for a quick refresher?

We recommend that you begin with the Fundamentals section of this resource in order to learn about WCP culture and policies on GenAI in the writing classroom. This section also summarizes best practices and ongoing conversations related to GenAI ethics and GenAI critical literacy.

Looking to deepen your pedagogy’s existing engagement with GenAI?

Our Developing AI Pedagogy section (under construction) is designed to support your teaching and research. It includes examples of classroom-tested assignments that aim to strengthen students’ critical AI literacy and rhetorical decision-making. This section also connects faculty with current scholarship on assignment design, curriculum planning, assessment strategies, and writing support practices – including peer tutoring and one-on-one instructional contexts.

Interesting in further exploring ongoing research on GenAI?

Our Exploring AI Further section (under construction) is for faculty interested in engaging with ongoing research and scholarly conversations about teaching and learning with generative AI and other AI-related topics. This section highlights emerging studies, critical debates, and disciplinary perspectives that can inform your pedagogy, research, and professional development. It’s a space for deepening your understanding of how GenAI is shaping higher education and for connecting your teaching and scholarship to broader academic and institutional discourses.

The AI Pedagogy Portal is a living resource. Expect ongoing updates as technologies and pedagogical strategies evolve. This resource was developed by the WCP AI Working Group as part of our team’s participation in the AAC&U Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum.
