This section introduces key concepts and contexts to help new and continuing faculty in Georgia Tech’s Writing and Communication Program engage with generative AI in their teaching and professional development. Rather than offering a comprehensive take on AI, it provides a grounded starting point: what generative AI is, how large language models work, and why understanding their cultural, ethical, and environmental dimensions matters for our program. Designed to support WCP instructors as they navigate evolving technologies in the classroom, this resource highlights critical issues around authorship, labor, and policy while offering language and frameworks for thoughtful, equitable integration of AI in writing pedagogy.
